Chicory is a wild-growing plant which can be commonly found in roadsides and pastures of lowland and highland Poland. Its varieties can also be found in other parts of Europe, in northern part of Africa and in Asia. The leaves and roots of the plant have medicinal properties, and that is why they have been used in folk medicine for a long time. Chicory was already known in ancient times, when it was used to cleanse the organism, remove toxinsand treat skin disorders.Chicory is an ingredient of grain coffee.
It is rich in large quantities ofvitamins and minerals: magnesium, manganese, iron, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, carotene, folic acid, vitamins B1, B2 and C. It also contains inulin and has high fibre content, which has a beneficial effect on the digestive and immune systems.It stirs up appetite and improves liver function by supporting biliary secretion.
